Biography
Marilyn Mikkelsen began her career as a photographer in London, Ontario after graduating from Fanshawe College's Photography program in 1981. Soon after, Marilyn moved to Ottawa where she succeeded in establishing herself as one of the only successful female photographers in the nation's capital to shoot editorial and public relations images for such clients as the Prime Minister's Office, the Department of External Affairs, and the Ottawa Citizen daily newspaper.
It wasn't long before Marilyn found her true passion in more personal family photography. She quickly expanded her business to focus on weddings, bar/bat mitzvah's, and family portraits.
Today, Marilyn operates a home-based studio and shoots on location with her husband Ralph Plath in digital format. As a team they are able to capture the beauty of any event by combining a mixture of stunning traditional portraits along with classic candid photography. Marilyn further specializes in Black and White photography in which she is able to capture seemingly timeless moments for clients again and again.
